Great news for One Piece fans in the UK! BBC iPlayer is set to add an incredible 1,085 episodes of the English dub of the beloved anime series, making it more accessible than ever for viewers across the region.
According to an announcement from the broadcaster, the first three arcs of the series—East Blue, Alabasta, and Skypiea, comprising a total of 206 episodes—will be available on iPlayer starting September 1st. Following this initial release, fans can expect the remaining seven arcs, bringing the story up to the Land of Wano, to be released “between September and December.”
While the most recent Egghead arc won’t be included in this release, the addition of One Piece marks a significant step for BBC iPlayer as it ventures deeper into the world of anime. Based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece first hit the airwaves in 1999 and has since become a cultural phenomenon. The series follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Crew as they embark on an epic journey to find the “One Piece,” a legendary treasure that will crown its finder as the King of the Pirates.
Fiona Campbell, the Controller of Youth Audiences for iPlayer and BBC Three, expressed her excitement about this major acquisition. “It’s a really exciting move to bring the One Piece franchise to UK audiences in the coming months,” she said. “With its captivating storytelling, rich characters, and global fanbase, One Piece has become a cultural phenomenon, and we’re so excited to see how the fanbase will enjoy this huge canon of episodes available in English only on iPlayer.”
In addition to this, Netflix has also been busy with its own One Piece projects. The live-action adaptation, which premiered last year, has been renewed for a second season and is currently in production. Fans can look forward to seeing the Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island arcs come to life in the upcoming season, which is slated for release in 2025.
With BBC iPlayer bringing a massive catalog of episodes and Netflix continuing to expand its live-action adaptation, One Piece enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to in the coming months.
