Epic Games has launched its new app store, the Epic Games Store, on iOS in the European Union and on Android globally. The store features popular games like Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys. This launch on iOS was made possible by the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which forced Apple to allow third-party app stores on its platform. Epic Game will be using its own payment system for in-app purchases.
The company announced the availability of the Epic Games Store on iOS in Europe and Android worldwide, along with an option to access its games via the third-party app store AltStore PAL. Players in eligible regions can now download and enjoy these games.
Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), celebrating the return of Fortnite to iOS in Europe, crediting the DMA. He also criticized Apple for continuing to block Fortnite for users outside of Europe, vowing to keep fighting for fair competition.
Epic Games has provided detailed video guides on how to install its app store on iOS and Android. Players can now access the mobile version of Fortnite, which is kicking off Chapter 5, Season: Absolute Doom. The company criticized both platforms for making the installation process intentionally difficult, with confusing steps and warning screens, and reiterated its commitment to challenging these practices in court and with regulators.
Looking ahead, Epic Games plans to introduce third-party titles to the Store in the coming month and aims to expand its offerings to iOS users in the UK and Japan in the future, although specific plans for this expansion were not disclosed.
